Gibbous Moon Phase – Moon in Gemini
It’s a bit of a heavy day out there today. Venus remains in close opposition with Jupiter and the Black Moon, and Saturn is in exact sextile with Pluto. The energy is pressing and oppressive. When things are pressed to the forefront, they happen to bring about resolution. Emotions are running deep and some are struggling against an onslaught. It may seem worse because of the talk about December 21, 2012 and all that it brings because it is in stark contrast to the way some are feeling. The holidays also force a lot of expectations, which in turn can lead to disappointment and depression. All of these things make for quite a concoction of energy. But let’s keep this real. Even though we know that Sophia is awake and engaging with anyone who cares to engage with her, each of us is at a different level with this (primarily due to the length of time we’ve been working with her). The degree to which the “real world” affects us is proportional to the degree to which we are in communion with her. When we are aligned with the divine being, our perspective about what is truly real and what is truly important shifts. If you are having difficulties, the answer is always to go outside into nature and then go inside yourself to connect with her from the core of who you are. This will automatically settle you. Ask to see things a different way. Then wait and see. There is beauty all around us and from there we can always change our perspective.

CHOP WOOD, carry water. Life on Earth appears, at least externally, to continue much the same as usual, even in these days after the end of the Mayan calendar. And yet, there are those whose lives have been affected in profound ways recently, who will agree with the theory that this month represents both a major ending and an initiation into a necessarily new phase of life.
This coming week, we again engage the Pluto-Uranus energies of transformative change. There’s a bit of a sandwich effect to the week — on one side, Uranus squares the Sun (on Tuesday) and on the other side, Pluto conjoins the Sun (next Sunday). In the middle, at the heart of our sandwich, is the Full Moon (on Friday), in which the Moon closely opposes Pluto and squares Uranus.
In other words, this week the Sun and the Full Moon activate the longer-term influence of the ongoing Pluto-Uranus square. Breakthroughs and revelations are possible, as are breakdowns and frustrations, as we adapt to and yet also resist the need for change in some area of our lives.
DIVING into the heart of the sandwich: The Full Moon occurs in the 8th degree of Cancer, invoking the themes represented by this Sabian symbol:
“A group of rabbits dressed in human clothes walk as if on parade: The tendency in all forms of life to imitate higher forms as a stimulus to growth.”
Perhaps this symbolic image is a variation on the instruction that if we want to be happy, we need to smile more often. Or, put in less refined terms, “fake it ’til you make it.”
Taking this a bit further: What would our lives be like if the skies had opened recently, and we had received the lightning bolt that opened our awareness in profound ways? What if there had been “an ascension moment,” in which all life was elevated to a higher vibration, and we magically became the highest possible expression of Self? Who would we be now? And what is keeping us from being that person anyway?
FRIDAY’S FULL MOON is also aligned with a quasar that assists us in “reaching out into untapped, unknown areas of space, time and mind to learn more and create an inner knowing and security.” (Mary Elizabeth Jochmans) This extension of self into unknowns is also supported both by the strong Uranus involvement with the lunation, and by Mars’ entry into Aquarius on Tuesday.
Of all the signs, Aquarius is the one most known for its willingness to venture into realms of higher consciousness on its journey to self-knowledge. Mars represents our ability to take action, to gather courage, and to initiate a process. With Mars in Aquarius for the next six weeks, our willingness to “boldly go where we have not gone before” is enhanced, as we do our best to know the thus-far unknowable.
I FEEL like I’m replaying an old record when I write about the Pluto-Uranus square. After all, we’ve been working with this energy since early in 2012, so it’s come up several times in this Journal. But I suppose we’d better get used to this particular record, since we’ll be working with the square in varying degrees through 2015.
But there’s a difference that’s recently come into play — Saturn is now involved in the Pluto-Uranus energy (Saturn is sextile Pluto). In general, and thankfully, Saturn usually adds an element of stability whenever its influence is invoked.
And, Saturn and Pluto are now in “mutual reception,” which enhances their ability to work together in beneficial ways. (Mutual reception occurs when two planets are each in the sign ruled by the other. Saturn is currently in Scorpio, which is ruled by Pluto. Pluto is currently in Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn.)
ASTROLOGER ROB HAND describes Saturn sextile Pluto as the ability “to grow and experience change in an orderly way, without the chaos and disruption sometimes experienced when circumstances demand change.” It also conveys the support to “endure hard times and come out in good shape.”
This sextile is exact on Wednesday, so should be a helpful assist in managing the otherwise changeable energies of the week ahead. And, when Pluto aligns with the Sun on Sunday, Saturn also sextiles the Sun. This aspect will support our taking charge of our lives from a place of greater empowerment and integrity, and motivated by our knowing of what is true for us on the deepest levels.
Blessings and Happy Holidays!
