The Attawapiskat First Nation and the International Indian Treaty Council have sought the support of the United Nations to stop C-38 and C-45. They state that the Harper government failed in their Duty to Consult as guaranteed by the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian Constitution Act.

In their request for consideration under the Early Warning/ Urgent Action Procedures of UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), they argue in part that C-45 removed fish habitat protections and changed the Navigable Waters Protection Act to a new format called the Navigation Protection Act, removing protection for 99.9 per cent of lakes and rivers in Canada. They also note that, The Frog Lake First Nation and Mikisew Cree First Nation, through their respective Chiefs, launched judicial review cases in the Federal Court. They are challenging the passage of the Bills C-38 and C-45. However, this form of justice is slow and expensive and inaccessible for many other First Nations or Aboriginal peoples in Canada.

And they request that the UN make six recommendations to the Government of Canada including, That Canada, as an urgent matter, conduct a comprehensive review and meaningful consultation in regards to Bill C-38 and C-45 to ensure it is consistent with Section 35 of the Constitution Act (1982), and to repeal such aspects of Bills C-38 and 45 which violate the rights of Indigenous Peoples held pursuant to Treaty, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (in particular the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Social, Economic and Cultural Rights and the recommendations of the CERD.

The United Nations CERD, which is based in Geneva, will consider their request on February 26.

Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow has stated, The Harper government has dramatically undermined the safety, sovereignty and security of First Nations through the omnibus bills C-38 and C-45. The gutting of environmental protections is of particular concern to First Nations as many of the current and proposed new energy and mining projects now released from environmental oversight by the Harper government take place on Indigenous lands. These changes were made without consultation with First Nations, despite their court-recognized treaty rights. This also violates the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which guarantees free, prior and informed consent in any matter that touches on resource development on Aboriginal lands.

People have been making this comparison for a number of years, but I think the combination of the things listed and things like Climate Change, Peak Oil, and the rise of other economic and military powers like China, the BRICS alliance etc, is pushing things along a lot more quickly.

Thank you for sharing this story! I have lost too many friends to war related ptsd. For the most part the VA has treated them in the past like they were defective idiots. A friend who died a few years ago, who had served in Vietnam, was “self medicating” with alcohol and pills, and the VA told his wife when she begged them repeatedly to get him some help “He doesn’t want help”. A few months after that ridiculous comment from the VA, he was dead.

Imho war is always the wrong answer, but if we are going to send people into such chaos and horror, the least we can do is make sure we give them a real shot at recovery afterwards.

If you don’t do anything else after seeing this-at least take a moment to pray for all those affected by war, whether soldiers or civilians, no matter what “side” they may be on. Those who profit from war are the wealthy EVERYONE else is a victim/survivor.

If it ever becomes possible to make Canada and the US actually obey international law, then not only the First Nations people within their borders, but poor people all over the planet will experience a huge difference in safety, environmental conditions, human rights and overall happiness.

If we truly respect the rule of law, then that day MUST eventually come.

Another speaker at the forum, Quebec lawyer Paul Joffe, stated that the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples — which Canada signed in 2010 — has legal consequences in this country.

He cited a recent decision regarding a human-rights complaint about child-welfare services on First Nations reserves. “The Federal Court said the following: ‘The Supreme Court of Canada has recognized the relevance of international human-rights law in interpreting domestic legislation,’ ” Joffe said. “So right away, you can see there are legal effects.”

The UN declaration has 46 articles calling on countries to protect indigenous peoples’ economic, social, cultural, political, environmental, and spiritual rights. The Conservative government has claimed that the UN declaration is “not legally binding”, describing it as “an important aspirational document”.

Joffe, however, adamantly rejected that argument. He noted that the Federal Court decision stated that Parliament “will be presumed to respect the values…

The manuscript of survival – part 273 Aisha North

You have mayhaps noticed a quickening in the atmosphere lately, and that is no mistake. For now, the waterfall of energy that started to pour into you all in the last weeks of last year has gained not only in strength, but also in efficiency. Hence, the somewhat intensified physical symptoms many of you experience at the moment. Again we remind you that even if they at times seem to almost incapacitate you, they are in fact only preparing you for what you have in store. And what you have in store is nothing short of miraculous.

We know that this will sound as empty words to all those still suffering from these last onslaughts, as you have a hard time even wrapping your head around your everyday existence that may seem to be more than a little hampered by these intense injections. But let us just say that no matter how hard the going will be at times, you will never ever get the chance to utter the words this was not worth it in the end. Because what you are heading for, will wash away any mishap, hardship, pain and suffering you might have experienced during all of this, and just like a mother holding her newborn in her arms for the very first time, you will forget the arduous journey you had to go through in order to achieve this, the birth of the new. For once you experience that first breath completely immersed in the new world you are all busily putting together by the help of all of these energetic bursts, you will fall down on your knees in gratitude and bliss. And then, the memory of the journey you have just completed will in some ways fade away, because you cannot look back anymore. For what you have in mind is the here and now, and as such, it is in many ways important to sometimes stop and ponder a little bit about the process you are currently in. For it will pass, and with it, much of what you have deemed as being an important part of you will pass too. For now, many of you identify so strongly with this process, with all of its ups and downs, soaring heights of joy and bottomless pits of pain and despair. But forget not that this is not why you are here. This is only the transitional phase, and even if it seems endless and almost beyond comprehension at times, this is not the state that will linger in your consciousness once it is finished.

For then, you have finally stepped out of your old robe, and fully stepped into your new garments of light. And with that comes a whole new existence where all of the memories from this arduous journey no longer have a place. For you are not here to relive all of these challenges, both physical and emotional. You are here to live fully, and once you have completed this task of constructing the new, you will be fully immersed in living it. So therefore we say do not mistake this journey for what you are here to do. Yes, you are the forerunners, and as such, the ones that are making this turnaround possible, but that is only a small part of your mission here. For you are here to savour the fruits of all of this labour, and you will do so with all of your heart and all of your body.

So again we say that know that these side effects from all of this rebuilding work you are currently doing are only superficial and temporary, and once you have gotten the last nail in place to put it like that, you will be free to enjoy the outcome of it all. And then, you will finally see the real you. The shining one, blessed in all ways and free as the bird. For then, you will no longer have to carry the shackles of the old, nor the burden of rebuilding, and then you will be free to live fully, in the image of the true Source. So do not get caught up in the aches and pains, the anger and frustration. For that is not the real you, that is only the part that is making you the real you. And soon, you will start to feel how that inner part of you will start to emerge from this somewhat chafing and restricting cocoon. It takes a little bit more labour of love before you can fully emerge from this cocoon, but do not let that fool you into thinking that you will be stuck in this rut forever. For just like the butterfly, you too will have transformed completely once you emerge, and then the hard work that made you will fall away, just like those dry shreds of the cocoon that once hid the brilliant colours of the butterfly. And just like the butterfly, you too will forget your former self, for then, you will no longer be the humble caterpillar inching along on the ground. Then, you will take to your wings and soar into the sky without a second thought.

As always Denise helpfully explains the confusing bits of the current energy-this time by sharing an article by Sandra Walter. The point now, as it has been is to take personal responsibility for yourself, your creations, your life-and apparently the energy is acting as a mirror even more than before to help us become aware of this.

A bit scary if you are still habitually complaining about negative stuff you have to deal with (I’ve been working at not doing this-and have succeeded for everything except that one complete psychopath, I mean valuable partner in my spiritual education;-) but overall a good thing in the long run.

Getting practice dealing with what we put out in our personal life allows us to develop the skill we need to co-create the beautiful future we all want to create!;-)

Gibbous Moon Phase – Moon in Leo

As mentioned, Mercury stations retrograde Saturday, causing potential issues with travel, electronics, and communications. The energy borders on chaos and we may find ourselves questioning if something is worth it or wondering if we have misplaced our trust or loyalty, especially if we are sacrificing something else. It may seem like all effort has come to nothing. It is hard to fully judge this until Mercury stations direct on March 17 so bear this in mind.

Sunday’s energy jars or jolts us into clarity about something that is bogged down, giving us a wake up call. Mercury is headed back for another conjunction with Mars and the energy will build throughout the day and into Monday when the exact conjunction is made. A lesson is being taught. Monday is charged with emotional energy, so let’s ground ourselves firmly with the planet today in preparation.
