Doctors Slam Proposed Food Stamp Cuts: ‘The Dumbest Thing You Can Do Is Cut Nutrition’

Thank you for posting this. I live on foodstamps and fruits from my garden. I spent years with serious malnutrition when Florida had republican government that made food stamps unavailable. I am now completely disabled due to autoimmune disease tho if I had access to sufficient nutrition and medical care when was younger I would very likely now be working for UN or something similar actually solving the problems like what led to me not doing so….its a waste of PEOPLE. A waste of intelligence, creativity, and lives.
I don’t want to pay taxes to build drones that blow up toddlers but paying taxes to provide food, medical care, shelter, education and infrastructure is the definition of society.

Think Progress

Doctors have a message for congressional lawmakers inching toward a compromise farm bill that would cut food stamps by nine billion dollars: It’s a terrible idea.

“If you’re interested in saving health care costs, the dumbest thing you can do is cut nutrition,” Dr. Deborah Frank of Boston Medical Center explained in an interview with the Associated Press. “People don’t make the hunger-health connection.”

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers benefits to over 47 million Americans. But the benefit level has fallen to the point that recipients only get about $1.40 per person per meal, even though food stamps often constitute the entirety of a family’s food budget. Doctors and researchers say that additional cuts on the horizon could increase the incidence of medical problems stemming in part from food insecurity, particularly diabetes and its related conditions.

For instance, a 2013 study by Robert Wood…

Zapatistas: twenty years after

Thank you for posting this. I realize that political structures and perspectives may differ widely between different countries but this succinct summation of the effects of the Zapatistas Mexico over the last 20 years directly illuminates the current breakdown of democracy in the US.

The parties no longer represent the majority of the people. They are widely known to be working for the corporations and the elites. If Americans could see how indigenous values and perspectives actually solve the problems we all face by giving everyone a voice i believe we could overcome the seemingly insurmountable divisions and as the Zapatistas did, disrupt the project of elite globalization.

Unfortunately it may take the level of physical hardship common in Chiapas to break Americans mental programming away from the party/hierarchy. :-/

ZAPATISTAS: TWENTY YEARS AFTER

By: Luis Hernández Navarro

Winds are blowing today, similar to those that blew 20 years ago in the Mexican elites. At that time Carlos Salinas de Gortari felt invincible, much like Enrique Peña Nieto does today. His project to reform Mexico in an authoritarian and vertical manner was advancing without major obstacles, and was being advertised as overcoming myths and historical atavism. He had already laid the foundations of a trans-sexennial power. His approval ratings in public opinion were skyrocketing.

The reforms to Article 27 of the Constitution, which privatized the ejido and opened the way for land concentration in the countryside, were approved without major mishaps. The same thing happened with the amendment to Article 130, which granted political rights to the clergy. At the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) an age of abundance, progress and prosperity was announced.

Salinismo believed itself to…

Inspiration

Thank you for posting this! I so needed to be reminded just now that the valleys are just part of our journey and we can choose to keep climbing back to the peaks and even learn to enjoy observing the different trees and lizards down below!:-)

Inspiration is a precious commodity in our world. Maysoon Zayid is a young woman who exudes inspiration. Life is always full of ups and downs. When we are in a valley, often we feel insecure or a lack of confidence. Often these dips are small in the big picture. It is hard to pick ourselves up and brush ourselves off and not take the obstacle personally. It is hard to stay positive all the time and we need to put negative thoughts and feelings aside because they can destroy everything we built up. Back in the day, when my life got tough, I would look at my patients or my clients at the Domestic Violence shelter and realize that yes, things had been bad, but I needed to focus on the people around me who were carrying much more than I was.

I wasn’t hearing voices or living in violence…

Montague Keen – January 12, 2014

Thank you for posting this. I hope everyone realizes that this project is not the only one nor even the first to begin restoring and caring for the leys and energy centers of the Earth. Many peoples have never failed in their duties in taking care of these centers. Others have been returning to their responsibilities for over 100 years.
I am not sure if the Mark on this is Marko Pogacnik or not but Pogacnik has been working on this ley and energy centers restoration and writing books about it since the 1980’s.

I don’t believe that it requires us to be coordinated globally to do but it is a great idea to support one another and another good reason to connect across borders and build toward Unity.

I’m working on a blog for discussion of this area to help spread the knowledge and help people connect. I will post the link later.
(Edit: New blog is Healing the Dragon Lines)

I hesitated to create it as in the past my jumping to do such things often
resulted in unpleasant power issues between people.
I’m guessing that since we are moving toward more Unity and horizontalism this time it will be more acceptable.

Montague KeenI wish to start by thanking everyone most sincerely for responding to our call for help to restore the sacred energy to Planet Earth. When this energy is fully restored it will remove many of the illnesses that beset so many of you. Your bodies need this energy in order to live full, healthy lives. It will also enable crops to grow, and to produce good wholesome food with pure energy in it. This has been denied you and you have had to struggle to survive.
Your response has been magnificent. Thank you.

This is a joint effort. Both sides of life are involved. Every living thing on the face of the Earth will benefit. You will experience a complete transformation from all that is now dark and negative to light and harmony in all things. Veronica is being asked why has this not…

Seen On The Internet 1-12-2014

Thank you for posting this. I think maybe most people don’t realize how this affects them if they aren’t poor/non-white/etc but once democracy is hobbled, it is no longer democracy. Either we want to poll the true will of the people and BE a democracy or we want the elitist new world order enforced with constant surveillance, poisoned lands, waters and food and media based mind control. That is where this fork in the road really leads.

That is why racism was inculcated, promoted and normalized. It is divide and conquer plain and simple.

We can learn to love our neighbors as ourselves or learn to love being slaves-doesn’t seem like a hard choice to me but being mixed “race” I would have to be a bit cracked to fall for that crap anyway:-)
