YESTERDAY’S NEW MOON (on Saturday, April 18) was in Aries, establishing this lunar cycle as a time when we can begin anew, and supporting us with the courage we need to enter new territory. We may be pioneering for ourselves, or leading the way for others, or a combination of both.

It is an exciting time, that perhaps will lead to some sleepless nights this week, due to our over-active minds. Even though we may gain some stability when the Sun enters placid Taurus on Monday, there are many planetary indicators of heightened mental activity throughout the rest of the week.

ONE OF THESE indicators is also on Monday, when Jupiter in Leo squares Mercury in Taurus. With this aspect, our enthusiasm may be running ahead of our planning. We may wonder if we really have enough things figured out on a practical level to make it all work, especially since it seems like we’re adding more items to our “to-do” list every few minutes.

But, Mercury and Mars are heading for their annual alignment on Wednesday, supporting us in taking action on our ideas. It’s nice that this alignment occurs in practical, earthy Taurus, since it will help us keep our feet on the ground even if we’re feeling a bit breathless over life’s rapid pace.

PLUTO forms helpful trine aspects to Mars on Tuesday and to Mercury on Wednesday, adding to the power behind their conjunction. Trines do not force us into action, but they help open doors so that what we are doing feels like “the natural next step” rather than a break from our path.

Pluto can be a powerful ally, especially when involved in trine aspects. The trine to Mars puts us into high gear as we become even more passionate about pursuing our desires, while the trine to Mercury adds to our determination to see our plans through to fruition.

WE MAY HAVE a reality check on Thursday, as Saturn makes a quincunx to the Sun. Quincunx aspects usually call for an attitude adjustment, and with the Sun in Taurus receiving the energy of Saturn in Sagittarius, we may become more aware of the changes that will need to occur if we actually take the new trajectory we’re considering (or may have already chosen).

With a Pluto-Venus quincunx on Friday, we may also realize that adjustments are needed in how we prioritize our time. This will require that we look closely at what we really value, and restructure our lives accordingly.

WE CONTINUE to confront our resistance to change on Saturday, through challenging aspects between the Taurus Sun, Chiron, and Ceres. With Chiron in Pisces, we may need to ask ourselves, “Can I have faith in the Universe and in positive outcomes, even if they are outside my conscious control, and I cannot yet see them?” If the answer to this question is “No,” or even “Maybe,” this is a perfect time to express love and compassion for the small fearful child within who is not quite sure about all this “faith in the Universe” stuff.

The Sun-Ceres square, also on Saturday, is a challenge to any remaining lack of self-esteem that could interfere with our chosen course of action. We will benefit from remembering that with Ceres in Aquarius, we find self-worth and self-acceptance when we claim our individuality and follow the path we internally know is right for us, even if it will require us to make choices that seem impractical, and even it means that we are no longer opting to do what someone of our age or situation “should” do.

With those inner conflicts to start the weekend, it’s lovely that we have a Uranus-Venus sextile on Sunday! This aspect can help reinvigorate our excitement about what’s next, and connect us with like-minded others who can support our new directions.

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
March 30 to April 5, 2015

THE PAST meets the future this week, urging us to make intentional choices in how we go forward from here. The energies of the Choice Point are centered in the powerful Total Lunar Eclipse on Saturday.

In the chart for this lunation, the Sun in Aries is aligned with Uranus, Mercury, and the South Node; the Moon in Libra is aligned with the North Node; and Pluto in Capricorn is squaring all of the above. This creates a cardinal “T-square” in the chart, with Pluto at the “apex” of the formation.

IN HIS BOOK Dynamics of Aspect Analysis, astrologer Bil Tierney writes that a cardinal T-square provides:
“… growth-accelerating lessons concerning personal energy expenditure applied toward major here-and-now objectives… We will need to develop greater self-discipline, inner timing, outer patience, and a general sense of thoroughness and organization to succeed… We must consciously analyze the practical facets of our own impulses to see if they will actually help us move ahead toward the realistic attainment of our goals. The more self-aware we allow ourselves to become, the more purposeful our live changes become.”

With Pluto at the apex of the cardinal T-square, its influence becomes even more powerful. As Mr. Tierney explains:
“With apex Pluto, life forces us to undergo explosive endings of one phase of our personal development in order to make fresh new starts in another phase.”

CHANGE seems to be the strongest theme here — but Mr. Tierney cautions us that successful change must be well thought-out and implemented, not arrived at haphazardly.

This may be harder than it sounds. Not only is Pluto at the apex of the T-square, but this Lunar Eclipse fully engages the vibrational field created by the Pluto-Uranus square. We can expect that the unstable energies we’ve been feeling recently will increase this week. But, through situations that unfold, we should gain even more clarity about what systems are no longer sustainable and where change is imperative if we are to make forward progress.

THE NORTH AND SOUTH NODES always play an important role an eclipse chart, since it is the proximity of the Sun and Moon to the nodes that is a characteristic of an eclipse. This means that every eclipse, especially a Lunar Eclipse, propels us into the future, and challenges us to let go of our attachment to what has been. Adding the Pluto-Uranus energies to this mix amplifies these themes even further.

This particular eclipse has not only the Sun, but also Mercury and Uranus aligned with the South Node. To move forward now, we will need to become especially aware of how our thought patterns (Mercury) have been taking us down roads of conflict (Aries) instead of ways of harmony. We will also want to watch for the knee-jerk “my way or the highway” reaction (Uranus in Aries) to see if it is really benefiting us in the long run.

The North Node, always pointing us toward the best route, is in Libra, and aligned with the Moon for the eclipse. We are directed to make our emotional balance a priority now, with the awareness that finding peace internally is a necessary first step to creating harmony in our relationships and in the world.

THE SABIAN SYMBOL for the Moon’s location at the time of the eclipse reads:
“Circular paths: Coming to terms with the inevitability of establishing steady rhythms of social activity.”

The image of “circular paths” at first sounds very different from the way we’ve been describing the transformational energies of this Lunar Eclipse. In comparison, a circle sounds calming and perhaps even boring in its repetitiveness.

And yet, because eclipses activate the North and South Nodes, they often require that we revisit the past before we catapult into the future. As we circle back through old patterns of behavior, we will want to a maintain a heightened awareness of who we have become and where we want to go to from here. This self-awareness will help us create those “purposeful life changes” that this T-square Lunar Eclipse requires.

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
March 9 to 15, 2015

IF YOU’VE BEEN WAITING for the energy and courage to take a risk, break free from the past, or make a major change, this week may very well provide you with all that, and more.

Mars, the planet of desire and action, aligns with Uranus, the planet of change and liberation, on Wednesday. These two planets come into alignment every two years, and so this week’s conjunction is not unique — but what is outstanding about this particular alignment is that it occurs within a week of the final Pluto-Uranus square. In fact, after Mars aligns with Uranus, less than seven hours pass before it then squares Pluto.

In astrological terms, Mars is acting as a “trigger” for the effects of the Pluto-Uranus square. That means we can expect this week’s events to act as the lever to pry us free from where we’ve been stuck, and to further dismantle old structures that no longer serve the greater good.

THE ENERGY is high as we begin the week, as Jupiter trines Mars on Monday. This planetary combination can help us feel that anything is possible. Mars is forthright and action-oriented, while Jupiter is optimistic and enthusiastic. The two working in harmony together provide plenty of inspiration and courage to apply to whatever opportunity or challenge is before us.

As Mars is also also conjunct Uranus, however, we may not be taking the time to consider possible outcomes before we take our leap of faith. There is a tendency to throw caution to the winds and worry about ramifications later. This, of course, can be helpful if we’ve been too tied to the status quo and need a good push to get us moving. But, especially with Pluto also involved, it will be wise to consider where we ultimately want to end up after we’ve leaped off the cliff.

OUR THINKING may also be more idealistic, somewhat confused, or at the very least less practical starting on Thursday, when Mercury moves into Pisces and immediately interacts with the Pluto-Uranus energy field.

Mercury will actually be at the midpoint between Pluto and Uranus on Thursday and Friday. A midpoint is a sensitive point that amplifies the energies of both of the planets involved.

With Mercury at that Pluto-Uranus midpoint, confusion or uncertainty are likely scenarios, as our brains try to come to terms with the changing reality that once was “life as usual.”

THANKFULLY, Saturn’s influence is also strong this week, since the ringed planet is moving very slowly now. Saturn will come to a standstill on Saturday and then change directions to begin its retrograde (backward-motion) phase.

Saturn’s job is to help us slow down and be more practical and responsible, so having strong Saturn energies at this time may actually be a good counterbalance to the extremes represented by Pluto, Uranus and Mars. Yes, there are times when we can feel grateful for Saturn, who we usually blame when life seems to be moving too slowly, or when we have to delay gratification of a need.

IF THERE ARE WORDS of advice to help us navigate the energies of the coming week, they might include:

  • Remember to breathe – and breathe deeply into your lower lungs
  • Stay in your center as much as possible
  • Know your own higher intentions in every situation
  • Let go of expectations and become an observer of events
  • Try not to attach to situations that arise — they may only be temporary, and giving your energy to them may make them larger than they need to be

And, most importantly, hold constant the vision of who you really are — that wise being who embodies the qualities of peace, faith, and hope, a being who can transcend the dramas of life and emerge from all circumstances with a brighter light, and with a stronger vision of what is possible.

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
March 2 to 8, 2015

THE PLANETARY ENERGIES this first week of the new month are both complicated and invigorating — no doubt just a first taste of the grand banquet that is March 2015.

It’s virtually impossible to talk about each aspect listed under this week’s “highlights” as a separate unit, because in truth, they are all interrelated. Uranus trines Jupiter, which quincunxes the Sun and conjoins Venus, which squares Pluto, which sextiles the Full Moon, which opposes Chiron … I think you get the picture.

So, if life seems especially complex right now, we have good astrological evidence to support that perception.

THE FULL MOON on Thursday seems like the best inroad to start exploring the week ahead. This lunation is arguably the focal point of the week, and talking through its meanings may be the best way to start unraveling the puzzle.

Full Moons occur when the Moon and the Sun oppose each other in the sky, so the themes always involve an awareness of polarities and the need to find a point of balance. Thursday’s Full Moon occurs with the Moon in Virgo opposing the Sun in Pisces, providing opportunities for us to reach a better understanding of how to “be in the world but not of the world.”

VIRGO’S AGENDA is always heavily weighted on the side of what is practical and useful. This sign inspires us to analyze situations so that we know the best way to proceed to get the job done. Along the way, however, we can get caught up in the details and think that we need to control every aspect of the process in order to succeed.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Pisces’ agenda is to teach us faith and trust, to help us follow the flow of events rather than try to control them, like a water droplet in a river that finds the path of greatest flow on its journey downstream. But even this lofty aim, if we take it to extreme, can result in not much accomplishment on the physical plane, and perhaps not even much growth on the spiritual plane if we have not learned to apply some structures to our process.

THIS FULL MOON, then, calls for us to find the balance point between the agendas of Virgo and Pisces — to know when it is best to analyze and direct, when it is better to trust and allow, and how to gracefully adjust our way of being to the right solution of the moment.

The Sabian symbol for the location of the Moon provides a visual that in many ways represents this merging of Virgo and Pisces:
“A fine lace handkerchief, heirloom from valorous ancestors: The quintessence of deeds well done.”
“Deeds well done” could be a mantra for Virgo — and yet the “fine lace handkerchief” is far from a practical solution when we consider how a handkerchief is meant to be used. That description is more in keeping with the Pisces view that the purpose of our lives goes far beyond just focusing on what needs to be done and what “makes sense.” We must also take the time for creativity and beauty. We must develop our artistry and spirituality as a counterbalance (and even a reprieve!) from the list of things that “have” to be done.

THE URANUS-JUPITER TRINE that occurs on Tuesday is the second of three such aspects, the first occurring last September and the last occurring this coming June. These two planets are working together throughout this ten-month period to inspire us to take risks, to open to new experiences, and to courageously and creatively follow the inner wisdom that is guiding us forward.

Venus steps into the mix on Wednesday, first aligning with Uranus in Aries and then squaring Pluto. With the final Pluto-Uranus square just two weeks from now (on March 16-17), any other planets that enter the Pluto-Uranus energy field immediately become part of the bigger picture of these times.

Venus represents the feminine, and her interactions with Pluto-Uranus may inspire some to increase their rebellion against being dominated by the masculine. This theme is also supported by another aspect that same day. The alignment between Mars and the South Node may provide us with the courage needed to break free from old patterns that do not support equality and justice in relationships.

NEXT WEEKEND, the alignment between the Sun and Chiron sheds light on where fears may still be running the show of our lives. The ultimate goal of Chiron in Pisces is to transform fear into faith, and to dissolve patterns of control so that we can receive the benefits of allowing and acceptance.

If the fear of the unknown seems stronger now, and the old control mechanisms no longer serve to bring solution and resolution, this Chiron-Sun alignment represents an important opportunity for us to let go of the past and to advance in our ability to live with greater trust. Our first step, as always with Chiron, is to hold our own fearfulness with love and understanding. As we love this small-child aspect of self, rather than judging or ignoring it, we take major steps toward creating a world that will, in the same way, more fully love and support us.

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
February 23 to March 1, 2015

NOT TO BE MELODRAMATIC, but the phrase that came into my thoughts this morning was “Something is destined to change our lives.”

As we wrap up the month of February and get ready for the even more profound planetary interactions scheduled for March, many are sensing that something on a grand scale is on the move. The common remark I’ve heard from clients and friends this past week has been some variation of “I know there’s a big change coming up, but I don’t know what it is.”

IT’S ALWAYS “INTERESTING” to work with the effects of the transpersonal planets — Uranus, Neptune and Pluto — because while their impact can be felt on very personal/human levels, their higher purposes always involve increasing our knowing of who we are beyond the limits of the personality. As we successfully work with the demands of these outer planets, we move into a higher perspective of our life purpose here on Earth.

So, yes, during this ongoing Pluto-Uranus square, we’re seeing lots of what looks like chaos (Uranus’ specialty) and power struggles (Pluto’s milieu). And yet, from a higher perspective, chaos opens our minds to perceiving in new ways and illuminates alternative solutions, since our usual ways of handling issues no longer seem to work.

AND WHAT ABOUT power struggles? From a higher perspective, power struggles reveal where we give away our power — whether to a challenge, or an authority figure, or to fear itself. Situations that feel like major crises ultimately open the door to large-scale changes and a new level of empowerment for those who are willing to walk through the fires of transformation.

It will be helpful to remember these higher purposes and perspectives as we begin the month of March and start to work even more closely with the energies of the final Pluto-Uranus square, exact on March 16-17.

SATURN is a major player as we begin this last week of February. On Monday, Saturn forms a challenging square aspect with the Pisces Sun, bringing us back to reality if we’ve been pretending that the rules of physicality don’t apply to us.

But, if we heed Saturn’s advice about being responsible and realistic on Monday, we can feel more supported and productive on Tuesday and Wednesday. On these days, Saturn forms helpful trine aspects with Venus and Mars (both in Aries). These trines support us in making progress when we take action that is in agreement with our true knowing and wisdom (Saturn in Sagittarius).

And, with the Neptune-Sun alignment on Wednesday, we can keep our creative vision alive while also wearing our practical shoes.

THE PLUTO-JUPITER quincunx aspect on Friday tells us there is need for an attitude adjustment, if we are to take full advantage of potentials now. Being the slower-moving of the two planets involved in this aspect, Pluto is ultimately running the show, while the faster-moving Jupiter represents what needs to be altered or eliminated.

Although Jupiter in Leo has many positive attributes, we always look for what could be considered “negative” qualities when determining what a quincunx aspect is requiring us to change. In this case, some of the behaviors that we might want to alter or eliminate include over-dramatics, showing off or boastfulness, or allowing our actions to be driven by the need for attention and approval.

In their place, we may want to embody more of the positive traits of Pluto in Capricorn: confident self-reliance, the ability to take a responsible leadership role, and the courage, patience, and insights that will be needed if we want to successfully reform established systems.

THE WEEK ENDS with some lighter aspects. As Venus aligns with the South Node on Saturday, watch for people from the past to come forward, either literally or in your memories and dreams. There may be important learnings available through remembering these relationships, both in how they succeeded and how they did not.

On Sunday, Mercury forms aspects with both Uranus and Jupiter, emphasizing this day as more social, more communicative, more optimistic, and more insightful. With all the Saturn duties and Pluto-Jupiter adjustments earlier in the week, this would be a great day to find something enjoyable, different, and interesting to do!

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
February 16 to 22, 2015

THE NEW MOON on Wednesday this week is positioned halfway between Pluto and Uranus, at what is called the “midpoint” of the two planets. The midpoint between any two planets is said to carry the energy of both planets involved — and so, the lunar cycle that begins this week is powerfully aligned to carry out the directives of both Pluto the Transformer and Uranus the Liberator.

This also means, of course, that the New Moon is triggering the influence of the ongoing Pluto-Uranus square, which has already brought about major changes in many people’s lives, and around the globe.

INTERPRETATIONS of the Pluto-Uranus combination are usually worded very strongly:

Astrologer Robert Hand, in his book “Horoscope Symbols,” writes that when the energies of Pluto and Uranus are combined, we have “revolutionary overthrow, total transformation, sudden changes that have long-standing causes at their root, extreme conditions, sudden and explosive events.”

In Noel Tyl’s books about planetary midpoints, he writes that when the Sun comes to the Pluto-Uranus midpoint, we experience “the urge for independence and freedom, great tension, revolution.” And the Moon at that midpoint brings “change through force, indomitable emotional conviction.”

MY SENSE of this New Moon, when the Sun and Moon both align with that Pluto-Uranus midpoint, is that it is setting up the situations that will carry us through the energy shifts in mid-March.

Our next New Moon on March 20 is also a Solar Eclipse and occurs the same week as the last exact Pluto-Uranus square (March 16-17) and the Aries Equinox (March 20-21). Any one of these planetary events is a news highlight — to have them all within four days of each other is the whole front page of the newspaper.

That week in March represents the mountain peak, or perhaps the rocket launch — and for us to reach the peak or actually fire the rocket, we have to do our prep work ahead of time. The lunar cycle that begins this week is part of that prep work.

THE SABIAN SYMBOL for the last degree of Aquarius, where the New Moon occurs, is perhaps the longest of all the 360 symbolic descriptions:

“Deeply rooted in the past of a very ancient culture, a spiritual brotherhood in which many individual minds are merged into the glowing light of a unanimous consciousness is revealed to those who have emerged successfully from their metamorphosis.”

The keynote description for this symbol illuminates its meaning further:

“The ability for the person with an open mind and a deep feeling for self-transcendence to come in contact with higher forms of existence.”

THE WORDS “higher forms of existence” may evoke a different image for each of us. The Sabian symbol itself speaks of “a spiritual brotherhood,” and I’m sure many who are reading this resonate with that phrase.

In my mind, this symbol reveals that this is a powerful time for us to connect with aspects of our own beings as they exist in higher-vibrational realms: our higher self, our soul, our Divine Self or Oversoul. This is also, in my opinion, a primary goal of this Time of Great Change, this time of shifting from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius.

Astrologer Dane Rudhyar, in his writing about this Sabian symbol, wraps it up with these words:

“It is a symbol of spiritual group fulfillment — of conscious totality of being.”

A lot to expect of a four-week lunar cycle! But perhaps not too much to hope for as a culmination of the past three years of working with the Pluto-Uranus square.

THE SUN enters Pisces just two minutes (!) after the New Moon is exact. The month of Pisces, every year, is a month to release, to surrender to the process, and to trust in the unfolding of life events, even when we cannot see or control the outcome. These directives are especially important this year, given the alignment of the planets and the upcoming Solar Eclipse on March 20, which occurs at the last degree of Pisces.

And yet, there is also a sense this week that the new has already begun. Mars and Venus both enter Aries within a day of each other, then align at the same degree on Saturday. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is always about initiating new action, taking bold steps forward, and being willing to go where no one has gone before.

HOW DO WE accommodate both the energy of Pisces and the energy of Aries at the same time, when they seem so different from each other? By using the best of both.

We must hold the Pisces perspective, that rises above the dramas and traumas of physical reality, that trusts in the unseen realms and lives more by intuition and flow than by logic and control.

At the same time, we must be willing, like Aries, to embrace the new, to courageously explore new frontiers, and to lead the way as needed.

And it is always helpful to remember to breathe, to get good rest, good exercise and healthy food, and to connect with Nature as much as possible.

In peace,
Pam

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for

VENUS appears in our highlighted aspects list several times, so we can assume that issues ruled by this planet will be in our awareness this week. These issues include relationships, financial resources, our sensitivity to art and beauty, and our most deeply felt values.

Taking it from a different perspective, let’s walk through the week alongside Venus and see how it unfolds.

ON MONDAY, Venus is aware of a darker energy in her peripheral vision. At times she thinks she’s making things up, that her mind is fooling her — but the sense that something is amiss keeps nipping at her heels.

This is Venus’ last day in Aquarius, before entering Pisces on Tuesday. Pluto forms a semisquare with Venus on Monday, and this is the source of her sense of something being wrong.

What is “wrong” is not Pluto, but the fear and distrust that Pluto’s energy can sometimes make us conscious of. Pluto brings into our awareness something that has been beneath the surface, that we’ve either not known was there or have kept hidden because we didn’t want to think about it.

A SEMISQUARE is not a major aspect, and often represents a minor challenge to the status quo. But at the same time, semisquares provide an opportunity to address an issue while it is still in its less obvious stage, before the planets involved reach a more confrontational square or opposition aspect.

The opportunity we have early in the week, as Pluto and Venus form a semisquare, is to pay attention to those fears in our peripheral vision — not to make them bigger than they are, but to be aware of how those minor fears are actually affecting our well-being.

With Venus in Aquarius, the fears may relate to having valued freedoms denied or to feeling controlled by circumstances or people. If these fears come up, it is worthwhile to observe whether the loss of freedom is caused by the circumstances that we fear, or if our fear itself is the true cause of our loss of freedom.

ON TUESDAY, Venus leaves freedom-loving, airy Aquarius and enters the compassionate, creative waters of Pisces. This change of signs is a subtle shift, but marks the beginning of a three-week phase during which Venus is motivated more by her ideals than by practical concerns.

While Venus is in Pisces, we can be more understanding and forgiving, but also more gullible in relationships than we might otherwise be. We may also want to be careful of making major decisions about finances and spending during these three weeks, since our idealism is stronger than our realism — especially with Mercury also retrograde during this time.

But, while Venus is in Pisces, our sensitivity to others and our artistic sensibility are both enhanced. We may also find it easier to access inspiration, both in our creative activities and in our spiritual pursuits.

IF VENUS MADE any missteps early in the week, perhaps trusting the wrong people, taking a role of self-sacrifice in an effort to save someone, or not thinking through all the practical aspects of a purchase, she will come face-to-face with the realities of her choices with the Saturn-Venus square on Friday.

Even without any errors in judgment, the meeting with Saturn indicates a challenge to her usual ways of approaching relationships and financial concerns, requiring that Venus gets very clear on what works and doesn’t work in these areas.

ON SUNDAY, Venus catches up with Neptune, and the two planets begin to dance, sailing across the floor in a beautiful waltz. These two planets are already in sync, and as they dance, it can seem that their feet barely touch the floor.

Depending on our individual propensities and the needs of our own natal Venus, this can be either a welcome time to let go of needing anything beyond the beauty of the moment, or a frustrating time when we are not getting the concrete connection or real experience we are looking for.

OTHER PLANETARY ASPECTS this week include a Uranus-Mercury sextile on Tuesday, providing opportunities for us to rethink our position on some issue, and to tap into our intuitive knowing for solutions. As the Sun aligns with retrograde Mercury on Friday, the viability of those solutions will be highlighted, and we’ll see more clearly what still needs to be done before we implement our ideas.

Mars is supported by a sextile from Pluto on Friday, so we may feel more empowered than usual, and more in touch with the courage needed for going forward. But we must also deal with those leftover fears about not being able to have what we want, since Chiron conjoins Mars on Saturday.

LAST CHANCE! If you’d like to buy the replay of my recent teleclass on the astrological influences for the first half of 2015, please send an email topam with “TeleclassReplay” in the subject line, and I’ll reply with details.
In peace,

Your Guide to Planetary Energies for
January 19 to 25, 2015

I’M GETTING A LATE START on today‘s journal due to a power outage — a big storm came through last night and tall fir trees are down across power lines everywhere. I spent the morning figuring out solutions for the big maple tree in my yard that uprooted, fell across the fence and onto my neighbor’s roof.

Thankfully, there was no major damage other than needing to replace a section of fence, my neighbors are easy to work with, and the tree guy is coming tomorrow morning to cut the maple into sections that I’ll eventually burn in my woodstove. And, electricity was restored about 20 minutes ago, so life seems a bit more normal again.

I used to love power outages as a child — always an excuse to do fun things like light candles and cuddle in blankets. As an adult with “things that need to get done,” and ultimate responsibility for fixing things that break, it’s a different story!

Thanks for letting me debrief a bit before diving into this week’s planetary aspects …

SEVERAL SHIFT POINTS occur this week. Neptune and Mars align on Monday, an event that happens about once every two years. When planets align, it’s the beginning of a new cycle related to the meanings of the planets involved.

With this alignment, we have an opportunity to align our actions more fully with our highest ideals. Monday can either be a day filled with inspiration, or a time when we don’t get a lot done, especially since Jupiter opposes Venus on the same day, an aspect that usually increases our desire to do only things that are pleasant and easy.

THE URANUS-SOUTH NODE alignment on Tuesday is the bookend to the Pluto-Node square that occurred last Thursday. I wrote last week that we are being pushed to release issues that tie us to the past and to old patterns of reactivity. This Uranus aspect is the break-free, breakthrough, or break-down portion of that release work, meant to help us with the process of liberating ourselves from self-definitions of the past.

Also on Tuesday, the Sun begins its month-long journey through forward-thinking Aquarius, right before aligning with the Moon for the beginning of the new lunar cycle. Since Aquarius is “ruled” by Uranus, this is a lot of energy for inspiration, liberation, and forward motion all on one day!

BUT, MERCURY begins its first retrograde (backward motion) period of 2015 on Wednesday, so all the usual cautions are in effect until the planet goes direct again on February 11: Use this time primarily for review, rethinking, and realignment, rather than taking concrete action in new directions.

These cautions seem in stark contrast to all the progressive themes we’ve just been talking about, but if we think more fully about the meanings of that Uranus-South Node alignment, it starts to make a bit more sense. If we are working to release old personality constructs that are no longer a match for who we want to be and who we are becoming, this Mercury retrograde phase could be a very productive time for us to get greater clarity on where and who we’ve been, and what needs to be different going forward from here.

THERE’S STILL TIME! I f you missed my recent teleclass on the planetary influences for the first six months of 2015, you can still purchase the audio replay and slideshow — just send me an email at pam with “Teleclass Replay” in the subject line, and I’ll reply with details.

Now, on with the week’s astrological news:

THE LIST of highlighted aspects for the coming week is amazingly short — so perhaps we will have some opportunities to regroup after our recent Full Moon effects. We’ve certainly been working with a lot of heightened energy since last weekend.

Mars enters Pisces on Monday, which may help us ride the energy waves with less resistance and more trust — always of benefit when we’ve been struggling and are feeling a bit overwhelmed. Mars will be in Pisces until February 19, giving us five weeks to settle into more intuitive, less confrontational ways of moving through the world.

URANUS forms sextile aspects with Venus and Mercury on Tuesday and Wednesday. These are not the most powerful aspects, but if we focus on tapping into their energies, they can help us be more flexible, more openminded, and more willing to allow the winds of change to blow through our lives.

However, also on Wednesday, Saturn forms a challenging square aspect with Mars. We’ve already talked about Mars in Pisces wanting to go with the flow, shying away from confrontation. But Saturn in Sagittarius has strong beliefs and judgments, and resists what it sees as irresponsible behavior from our more passive Mars. This can set up a conflict of ideals mid-week, and require that we find a way to reconcile the differences between our desire to be compassionate and our need to be right.

THE ENERGY of the Pluto-Uranus square is again engaged starting midweek. Pluto squares the Moon’s Nodes on Thursday, acting as a catalyst for the release of issues that tie us to the past and to old patterns of reactivity. And, since Uranus is conjunct the South Node in Aries on January 20, themesthat arise this week will likely carry into next.

The Nodes represent our path of spiritual evolution as we integrate the past and project ourselves into the future. With the North Node in Libra, our collective and individual goals are to find a new level of balance in life, a calmness and equanimity that is not overly swayed by issues that arise.

This is a time to focus on some of the qualities of that North Node in Libra, to do our best to stay in balance, and to soften and release the old ego structures that have kept us often in defensiveness, anger, or fear. Having Mars, the ruler of Aries, in Pisces, may be very helpful in this process of release.
And, remembering to breathe should also be helpful!

In peace,
Pam

IT’S TELECLASS WEEK! There’s still time to register for Thursday’s class on the planetary energies for the first six months of 2015. And remember that you do not have to attend “live,” since everyone who registers will receive an email after the class with links to an audio replay and to the pdf of the slideshow I’ve created.

If you’re ready to register for the class, entitled“At the Door of a New Age” ($25 for the 90-minute class), here’s the direct link:

http://pam2015.eventbrite.com

I’m including the full class description again at the end of today‘s journal if you’d like more information before you decide about attending. I hope you can join us!

AFTER the powerful planetary influences we’re experiencing this weekend — the Pluto-Sun alignment yesterday and the Full Moon today — it’s nice to see that the week ahead is not quite as rocky energetically.

We start off on Monday with a Saturn-Mercury aspect that should help us wrap our brains around recent events, and make sense of any insights we’ve gained along the way. It looks like some of those insights will require an adjustment in our current trajectory, given that Saturn goes on to form a slightly challenging semisquare aspect with the Sun on Tuesday.

AS WE NEAR the end of the week, things get a little bumpier. Mars is at the midpoint between Pluto and Uranus, forming a semisquare aspect with both planets on Friday and Saturday. The Uranus-Mars aspect stirs up irritations and impatience, whereas the Pluto-Mars aspect ignites the fight-or-flight response.

Astrologer Noel Tyl writes that Mars at the midpoint of Pluto-Uranus manifests as “enormous energy; fanaticism; coercion.” Knowing that some primal instincts are likely to be awakened, we may want to plan ahead with this one. Where in your life could you benefit from utilizing “enormous energy”? How can you direct this energy in positive ways? Hopefully, if we keep our heads on straight, we won’t end up manifesting the “fanaticism or coercion” end of the spectrum.

ONCE the dust settles, Sunday looks like a day to get back on track. The Sun and Vesta align in Capricorn overnight Saturday, providing the energy of commitment, discipline, dedication and goal-orientation for us to drawn on.

The casualty of this focused attention, however, appears to be Jupiter in Leo, which is quincunx the Sun/Vesta alignment. We may need to practice delayed gratification with this aspect, and be more spontaneous and playful on another day.

ANOTHER NOTE about today‘s Full Moon (Sunday, January 4, 8:53pm PST) — this lunation is also important because it occurs at the three-month point after our October 8Lunar Eclipse.

The Sun travels 90 degrees in three months (a quarter of the way around the zodiac), and at that time, forms a square aspect to the eclipse degree. The lunation at the three-month point usually raises issues that connect in some way to the themes that arose at the time of the eclipse.

As we navigate the powerful energies this first weekend of 2015, we may gain some insights if we can see current events as part of a cycle or a phase of experience that began in early October. Hopefully, that information will help us process what’s occurring now from a place of greater perspective and overview.

AS PROMISED, here is the teleclass description one more time for those who want more information. I look forward to connecting with you all as we look ahead to the next six months!

At the Door of a New Age
Your astrology guide for January to June 2015

A 90-minute teleclass with Astrologer Pam Younghans and Wellness Educator Elsie Kerns

Thursday, January 8, 2015
Live broadcast: 4pm PST | 5pm MST | 6pm CST | 7pm EST

Also available by download after class airs | Fee: $25

THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF 2015 hold enormous potential for spiritual growth and creative change, as the planets challenge each of us to make a quantum leap in some area of our lives.

We’ve been working with the transformational energies of the ongoing Pluto-Uranus square for 3 years now. By the end of 2014, we will have experienced the exact aspect 6 times. But in each of those exact aspects, either Pluto or Uranus has been retrograde, leaving us to balance the need to resolve issues from the past with a strong desire to leap into the future.

March 16, 2015 is the date of the 7th and final exact square between Pluto and Uranus – and on that date, both planets will be in forward motion. In other words, it’s all systems go, full speed ahead!

In this 90-minute teleclass, I’ll explain more about what this final Pluto-Uranus square means, and how it relates to the title of the class, “At the Door of a New Age.” I’ll also talk about other exciting and potentially life-changing events in the first 6 months of 2015:

  • The highly-energized line-up of planets in mid-March, which sees Mars aligning with Uranus and both planets trine Jupiter, right before the final Pluto-Uranus square – and just days before an eclipse and the equinox
  • The Total Solar Eclipse on March 20 in the very last degree of the zodiac (29 degrees of Pisces), indicating a time of completion and the need to release old definitions of spirituality
  • The Total Lunar Eclipse on April 4 that activates more events related to the Pluto-Uranus-Mars-Jupiter line-up in March
  • The first months of Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius, and its return to Scorpio on June 14

I’ll also cover the significance of the New and Full Moons for each month, as well as Mercury’s retrograde phases, and other highlights of the first half of 2015. As before, the slideshow will include monthly calendars showing the most important planetary aspects.

I hope you can join us, either “live” as the class airs, or by download afterward!

Blessings,
Pam
