What If the Chinese Killed the Dalai Lama with a Drone Strike? | Common Dreams

What If the Chinese Killed the Dalai Lama with a Drone Strike?

by Tom Gallagher

His holiness the Dalai Lama. Is might be absurd to consider the hypothetical, but then again, what has become the reality of US policy, like the extrajudicial killing a US teenager, would have also once been decried as absurd. On the same day we learned of the Obama Administrations intent to dig in its heels and refuse to share its standards for drone strike targeting with the U.S. Senate, we also learned that China had considered becoming the second nation to launch a drone-based missile strike against one of its enemies on foreign soil. Had it happened as contemplated, the attack in Myanmar would certainly have made waves in Washington. The nature of the target would not have been very controversial though, in that Burmese national Naw Kham is a drug lord blamed for the killing of 13 Chinese sailors who refused to pay protection money while working on the Mekong River in 2011. (China decided against the strike and instead captured him in Laos last April and subsequently sentenced him to death.)

But what if China decided that the Dalai Lama were a legitimate target?

Absurd? Well, yes and no. Yes, its not going to happen. Obviously assassinating the Dalai Lama would be rightly denounced as an atrocity in every capital around the world and I dont for a moment mean to suggest that the Chinese Government would actually consider it. But would it be absurd in the sense that it would somehow be beyond the pale of world standards for drone-based assassination, that is to say, the standards of the one country that has done this the U.S.? Well, no.

We know that the Dalai Lama isnt guilty of terrorism, but then by now we also know that some of Americas drone strike victims werent either.

From official Beijings point of view, the Dalai Lama is an enemy of the Chinese state, a secessionist whose remarks, according to the official Xinhua news agency remind us of the cruel Nazis during the Second World War in advocating policies that would expel Han Chinese from Tibet, which China deems an integral part of the country. Of course, when it comes to comparing any imagined Chinese action with real life American policy, we are at something of a loss, in that, as weve been reminded over the course of the Senate hearings on John Brennans appointment as CIA Director, President Obama maintains his right to assassinate without telling us on what basis he does so.

Still, there are a few relevant things that we do know. Were we to continue our reality stretch in imagining a Chinese Government hit on the Dalai Lama, we would likely also then imagine critics jumping on the irony that, since China considers Tibet an inextricable Chinese province, it would then be killing one of its own citizens. But as we know, in that Beijing would not be going Washington one better, since when a drone-based missile killed Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen in 2011, the President had for the first time authorized the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen or at least the first time that we know of.

Or we might well note, that overblown official Chinese rhetoric notwithstanding, the fact is that the Dalai Lama is a man of peace who has never killed anyone or ordered anyone killed, while the people the U.S. kills via drones are men guilty of violence terrorists. Well, not exactly right there either.

Again, while we citizens dont currently have the right to know the basis on which the President issues death sentences, we do know that there are such things as signature strikes, which target people on the basis of suspicious activity. When Anwar al-Awlakis 16 year-old son, Abdulrahman, was killed in such a drone strike the month after his father, not only did he become the third American citizen known to die in that manner, but also the first never even accused of terrorist activity. And as for those who arent American citizens, weve read of the State Department joke that so far as the C.I.A. goes, three guys doing jumping jacks constitutes a terrorist training camp.

We know that the Dalai Lama isnt guilty of terrorism, but then by now we also know that some of Americas drone strike victims werent either. So if the Chinese government were to take down the man it regards as a dangerous separatist would it actually be acting below the level of current world, i.e., American standards for the use of drone attacks? As the saying goes, Im just saying.

As you may know if you’ve read my writing before, the Dalia Lama is one of my personal, lifelong heroes. Oddly, being raised in a polarized place like the US, I am also a huge fan of Chinese cinema, literature and culture.

I have often been confused by the Chinese government’s stance on the Dalai Lama, but it is not so different from the similarly inexplicable US stance on indigenous issues-both appear to make perfect sense when you factor in the land, resources etc that both the Native Americans and the Tibetans would be blocking free access to if they had true sovereignty over their ancestral lands.

While the Black Hills have been taken without being ceded, just as Tibet was and both areas are now operationally part of the larger nations-can anyone really argue that this is for any reason other than force of arms on the part of the larger entity?

The big difference appears to be that the Chinese government places a greater value on the appearance of being moral and decent-or perhaps with more pragmatism and less disgust toward my own country I should say that even if China decided using a drone to kill the Dalai Lama was a good idea, they surely do not wish to provoke a nuclear exchange with well armed India over one very elderly gentleman who is not really a threat to them.

Of course, the US uses drones only in countries that cannot fight back. (unless they are using them against Native people on behalf of that country, as in Caledonia in Canada in 2009)

As much as I respect my President, I am disappointed beyond words that he is choosing or being forced to go along with this horrific agenda of murder, domination and imperialism by remote control.

I hope that if the people make ENOUGH noise about our disagreement with it, he will be empowered to act on his conscience and bring it to an end. From all I know about our President, I simply cannot imagine that he feels comfortable, justified in, or supportive of this drone war. I hope that I am not wrong about him.

Targeted killings: OK if Obama does it?

Salon exclusive: Study finds “liberals” more likely to favor targeted killings once they know its Obama’s policy

Civil libertarians have worried that some of President Obamas comparatively hawkish national security policies are silencing liberal Democrats who would have opposed such measures under President Bush or another Republican. Now theres new evidence that Obamas support for such policies isnt just silencing them its winning them over.

This is a very interesting article, and very disturbing from the perspective of a person who believes in ahimsa, AND our President.

I know he has to work within certain parameters or he won’t be allowed to continue working, but it is very scary when it appears that the bad guys are winning the chess game I’ve always believed he was playing with them. When they manage to USE him to make their sick violence acceptable to people who SHOULD know better-ugh!;-(

King: I Have a Dream. Obama: I Have a Drone.

I am posting the intro here, and the full story is at Truthout(link below intro). I can’t say I am happy to post this-but I am only following my President’s advice to me and his other supporters when he won in 2008. He said that we had to hold his feet to the fire and make sure he does what he said, what we want.

I am sure he knew going in that the President has much less actual power or choice than most Americans believe he does and so he knew that only with loud public outcry could he even hope to begin the changes he, and we, believed in.

I do not know what to think of some of the choices he has made, or been forced to make. I would love to see an expose of how he was forced to allow the drone strikes-but until I see that all I can do is ask my President, the man I worked to elect-what are you thinking?

How can you tuck your children in at night, look at their faces and NOT see the faces of the children those drones have blown apart? If that is what you see-how can you allow it to continue? If you are being forced, Mr President, pressured against your own deepest morals then ask us to back you up and we will! But please find a way to make it stop.

A simple twist of fate has set President Obamas second Inaugural Address for January 21, the same day as the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday.

Obama made no mention of King during the Inauguration four years ago — but since then, in word and deed, the president has done much to distinguish himself from the man who said I have a dream.

After his speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in August 1963, King went on to take great risks as a passionate advocate for peace.

After his Inaugural speech in January 2009, Obama has pursued policies that epitomize Kings grim warning in 1967: When scientific power outruns moral power, we end up with guided missiles and misguided men.

But Obama has not ignored Kings anti-war legacy. On the contrary, the president has gone out of his way to distort and belittle it.

In his eleventh month as president — while escalating the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan, a process that tripled the American troop levels there — Obama traveled to Oslo to accept the Nobel Peace Prize. In his speech, he cast aspersions on the peace advocacy of another Nobel Peace laureate: Martin Luther King Jr.

The president struck a respectful tone as he whetted the rhetorical knife before twisting. I know there’s nothing weak — nothing passive — nothing naive — in the creed and lives of Gandhi and King, he said, just before swiftly implying that those two advocates of nonviolent direct action were, in fact, passive and naive. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people, Obama added.

Moments later, he was straining to justify American warfare: past, present, future. To say that force may sometimes be necessary is not a call to cynicism

AIPAC, decapitators inside US government: Intelligence analyst

AIPAC, decapitators inside US government: Intelligence analyst

Sun Nov 25, 2012 6:36AM GMT
42By Gordon Duff
Seventy hours ago, at this writing, while on Air Force One, President Barack Obama issued a press release that has been utterly ignored by the Western Press.

The president has openly announced a move against violent plotters inside the US government and espionage agents. He does not use the terms “AIPAC” or “the Israel lobby” but it is highly unlikely he could be referring to anything else.

In fact, we can think of no other group.

I was privately briefed on some of the reasons behind this document. On what is known, not “surmised,” I will explain:

There is, currently, within the US military, the Executive branch of government and among extremist “power brokers” in America an active plot to “alter” America’s form of government through “decapitation.”

Let me be clear. Where the memo, printed in full below, refers to “violent”, it means “assassination” of many top leaders in America including but not limited to the President, Vice President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and others.

The plot makes use of the resources of major private defense contractors and their intelligence and special operations personnel. There has been active recruiting that has been noted and is why the memo was released and why many members of the military have been subjected to investigation.

The Benghazi attack was planned and financed by this group.

Many writers in the alternative media have noted much of what is going on but not all. Some have shown access to very knowledgeable sources.

Behind the plotters are drug cartels that have penetrated the US government, former lobbyists who were moved into government during the Bush (43) administration and now are suspected of being involved in a coup attempt.

There is no direct evidence tying any foreign government to this plot though most are “fanatically” aligned with the militant Likudists in Israel under Netanyahu’s regime.

The President’s text below, unedited:
The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release
November 21, 2012

Presidential Memorandum — National Insider Threat Policy and Minimum Standards for Executive Branch Insider Threat Programs

Memorandum for the heads of executive departments and agencies

Subject: National Insider Threat Policy and Minimum Standards for Executive Branch Insider Threat Programs

This Presidential Memorandum transmits the National Insider Threat Policy and Minimum Standards for Executive Branch Insider Threat Programs (Minimum Standards) to provide direction and guidance to promote the development of effective insider threat programs within departments and agencies to deter, detect, and mitigate actions by employees who may represent a threat to national security. These threats encompass potential espionage, violent acts against the Government or the Nation, and unauthorized disclosure of classified information, including the vast amounts of classified data available on interconnected United States Government computer networks and systems.

The Minimum Standards provide departments and agencies with the minimum elements necessary to establish effective insider threat programs. These elements include the capability to gather, integrate, and centrally analyze and respond to key threat-related information; monitor employee use of classified networks; provide the workforce with insider threat awareness training; and protect the civil liberties and privacy of all personnel.

The resulting insider threat capabilities will strengthen the protection of classified information across the executive branch and reinforce our defenses against both adversaries and insiders who misuse their access and endanger our national security.

Barack Obama

A very real threat to world stability

To some, at a glance, this might actually sound like a response to leaks within the CIA and White House except for some extraordinary language. Please make very special note of the following:

“…to deter, detect and mitigate actions by employees who may present a threat to national security…These threats include…violent acts against the Government and the Nation…”

Please note that they refer to “violent acts” and speak of both the “government” and “nation.”

By “government,” they are indicting, with no “wiggle room,” assassination plots.

By “nation,” they may well be referring to false flag terrorism that may well include use of weapons of mass destruction.
Britain was subject to such a threat during the London Olympics, one that would never have been successfully overcome without the help of journalists who put themselves at great risk.

Espionage

The US government has had a twelve-year moratorium against arrest and prosecution of spies within our government and military other than those who can be tied to China.

The most famous Chinese “spy” was Wen Lee Ho, a nuclear scientist at Los Alamos Labs. He was arrested in 1999, held in solitary confinement for a year and then released.

In order to get an accurate picture I phoned two friends, one a senior FBI counter-intelligence operative and the other a very senior US Army intelligence officer.

The question I put before them, while eating breakfast, was:
“Please list the nations that represent the greatest threat of espionage against the United States and, which nations, in order, are believed to represent the “penetration threat” that President Obama is referring to.”

From the FBI, their appraisal not intended for the “pop culture” media:
“Our greatest direct threat is Israel and the Israel lobby. They have systematically penetrated every aspect of government and the military and, if they cannot get documents from those branches, friends in congress will give them access to anything that branch has available.
After that is India, with every research facility at risk from RAW (Indian Intelligence) penetration and then Cuba, Mexico and Turkey.

The primary end users of this intelligence, the “clients,” are Russia and China.”

From the US Army:

“I agree with Israel and the rest but we have not had Turkey on our radar. The obvious end users are, of course, Russia and China based on capability.

The issue I have is how a presidential press release, an extraordinary and almost “draconian” document has gone without an uproar from congress and wide press coverage. Who has the power to suppress reporting on something like this, though, I know that you will say it is Israel, I would want proof.

Though there has been no official notification of this, I am of the impression that we now consider any mention of Israeli spying to be highly classified. Only Russia and China are officially listed, entirely out of concern not to offend lobbyists whose feelings outweigh real issues of national security.”

Then I turn on my television, hour after hour of TV shows about espionage and terrorism. Both American and British TV are the same.

All spies are from Iran and Pakistan; nations that our actual intelligence agencies indicate represent no espionage threat to speak of.

In fact, in my two Saturday morning phone interviews, which can, of course, be confirmed by Homeland Security who has tapped my phones, I have reflected with great accuracy.
Thus, we ask you to read what President Obama really did not say “between the lines,” the message is quite clear.

We do not see a roundup of AIPAC spies, not like in the early days of the Bush administration although Attorney General John Ashcroft quashed that investigation.

What we are seeing is a hunt for traitors within the American government and military, some of which is working its way onto the news.

The question of the moment, however, is this:

How can a President of the United States announce that the government is infiltrated with terrorists and spies and no newspaper, television network or other form of media notices?

Is The U.S. Promoting Cold Fusion?

Is The U.S. Promoting Cold Fusion?

Posted by administrator on November 18, 2012 in Cold Fusion · 3 Comments

The newly reelected president of the United States, Barack Obama, signed yet another executive order in August of this year. Unlike other attempts he has made to circumvent the democratic processes of the U.S., this one may actually help the country. This executive order binds the government to a commitment to producing and implementing CHP, or Combined Heat and Power. There are a number of engines on the market today that convert heat to electricity, and this falls right into line with the functions of Andrea Rossi’s work with the E-Cat and Hot Cat.

In his order, Obama orders industrial facilities to develop a way to generate their own power, including heat and electricity. This is a sweeping decree, considering that without an E-Cat, such an accomplishment will be nearly impossible. He states his goal as 40 gigawatts of energy created by industries, so that they can support themselves. This is a small fraction of the nearly 1,200 gigawatts produced nationwide, but still represents a huge step forward in alternative energies. One gigawatt is equivalent to 1 billion watts.

Obama has typically been more interested in green energies, such as the failed Solyndra. He also, however, withdrew funding from NASA which had done quite a bit of work in LENR, and produced research that supported its existence. However, he has apparently been listening to someone, whether it’s NASA, the Energy Department of the U.S., or the Defense Intelligence Agency. All of these have put out reports that LENR does, indeed exist. Possibly he has also been informed of the successes of Andrea Rossi, with his Hot Cat and the industrial E-Cat now being marketed. It is rumored that the U.S. Navy was actually the customer of the first sale of an industrial unit. Other advances in LENR recently have included Francesco Celani and Brillouin.

While an executive order can be challenged and repealed in congress, it is unlikely that they would eliminate this order in its entirety. The biggest problem with it is that industry in the U.S. has already taken many losses over the last 4 years, and becoming self-sufficient in energy production could be far too expensive, unless they accept LENR. While a large part of the populace sees this order as another volley in Obama’s war on coal, those same people realize that the U.S. needs to move into alternative sources of energy in order to maintain or regain its independence from foreign oil and economic influences.

The long and the short of it is that Obama’s order can be good for LENR, and therefore, for Andrea Rossi. It provides even more motivation to American industry to seek independence from the power grid, possibly through investing in the Hot Cat.

Obama pushed Israel to accept Egyptian cease-fire agreement friendly to Hamas

Obama pushed Israel to accept Egyptian cease-fire agreement friendly to Hamas

Much thanks to Laura for sharing this info! I must add for my own readers a warning that the source for that article was astonishingly negative, and the comments even more so. The original site appears to be a rather racist and overall biased, negative and lowered vibration sort of site, but it is good that they pointed out the skill with which President Obama appears to be maneuvering us toward the global peace and justice that channeled sources have said he is to help bring about.

I have been overjoyed to see President Obama actually doing something in support of the indigenous people, something almost unheard of for American Presidents(except Jimmy Carter who regularly writes very informed articles about this issue).

I thought it was a sign of the leadership abilities so often attributed to him by the channeled sources that say he is a lightworker. . He seems able to genuinely support win-win solutions and have real care for the suffering of ALL the people involved rather than picking a favored side and pushing their agenda.

The article above does not seem very aware of international diplomacy or how things like peace treaties brokered by other states work-when they claim there are no curbs on missiles from Gaza. As Egypt is the guarantor of Hamas good behaviour it is far more assured than at any time in the past, since Morsi’s government is so new and he needs to establish good ties with the US, and Israel to maintain stability he will be far harder for any radicals in Hamas to get around that any leader of Fatah has been.

It is to the benefit of everyone in the region that conditions in Israel and Palestine improve, and the only way that can happen is by ongoing dialogue and improvement in the actions of the leaders involved. Logically the *leaders* of Hamas are NOT the most radical among them, and they are surely more concerned for the well being of the people in Gaza than any pie in the sky idea of pushing Israel out of existence-or they would not be leaders of the people who have to live there along with their extended families, friends etc.
Contrary to racist sites like this source and other blinded by duality and lower 3d consciousness people, Arabs, Muslims and even the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas are NOT crazed monolithic entities of hate. They are, just like the rest of us a collective of individuals with their own life experiences, spiritual practices, love for the families and friends and hopes for the future. The comic book villains that propaganda make Muslim groups like the Brotherhood and Hamas out to be are ONLY real in comic books. They are racist, and ridiculous parodies of human beings. Since the time of the Crusades, it has been readily apparent in encounter after encounter that the Muslim fighters have a sense of honour and morality in most cases far more developed than those of the Western invaders who for instance use white phosphorous on children and spread DU over entire countries causing endless birth defects and childhood leukemia among other so called “collateral damage”.
So please take the tone of this article with as Robert Anton Wilson used to say “a small Siberian salt mine”, but the info contained with the sense of hope and celebration it seems to imply;-)
I hope this beautiful achievement is a sign of things to come, as we shift globally from the duality of win-lose to the unity of win-win in every situation that has previously appeared intractable.

An Open Letter to President Obama …from Michael Moore

An Open Letter to President Obama …from Michael Moore
Monday, November 19th, 2012

Dear President Obama:

Good luck on your journeys overseas this week, and congratulations on decisively winning your second term as our president! The first time you won four years ago, most of us couldn’t contain our joy and found ourselves literally in tears over your victory.

This time, it was more like breathing a huge sigh of relief. But, like the smooth guy you are, you scored the highest percentage of the vote of any Democrat since Lyndon Johnson, and you racked up the most votes for a Democratic president in the history of the United States (the only one to receive more votes than you was … you, in ’08!). You are the first Democrat to get more than 50% of the vote twice in a row since Franklin D. Roosevelt.

This was truly another historic election and I would like to take a few minutes of your time to respectfully ask that your second term not resemble your first term.

It’s not that you didn’t get anything done. You got A LOT done. But there are some very huge issues that have been left unresolved and, dammit, we need you to get some fight in you. Wall Street and the uber-rich have been conducting a bloody class war for over 30 years and it’s about time they were stopped.

I know it is not in your nature to be aggressive or confrontational. But, please, Barack – DO NOT listen to the pundits who are telling you to make the “grand compromise” or move to the “center” (FYI – you’re already there). Your fellow citizens have spoken and we have rejected the crazed ideology of this Republican Party and we insist that you forcefully proceed in bringing about profound change that will improve the lives of the 99%. We’re done hoping. We want real change. And, if we can’t get it in the second term of a great and good man like you, then really – what’s the use? Why are we even bothering? Yes, we’re that discouraged and disenchanted.

At your first post-election press conference last Wednesday you were on fire. The way you went all “Taxi Driver” on McCain and company (“You talkin’ to me?”) was so brilliant and breathtaking I had to play it back a dozen times just to maintain the contact high. Jesus, that look – for a second I thought laser beams would be shooting out of your eyes! MORE OF THAT!! PLEASE!!

In the weeks after your first election you celebrated by hiring the Goldman Sachs boys and Wall Street darlings to run our economy. Talk about a buzzkill that I never fully recovered from. Please – not this time. This time take a stand for all the rest of us – and if you do, tens of millions of us will not only have your back, we will swoop down on Congress in a force so large they won’t know what hit them (that’s right, McConnell – you’re on the retirement list we’ve put together for 2014).

BUT – first you have to do the job we elected you to do. You have to take your massive 126-electoral vote margin and just go for it.

Here are my suggestions:

1. DRIVE THE RICH RIGHT OFF THEIR FISCAL CLIFF. The “fiscal cliff” is a ruse, an invention by the Right and the rich, to try and keep their huge tax breaks. On December 31, let ALL the tax cuts expire. Then, on January 1, put forth a bill that restores the tax cuts for 98% of the public. I dare the Republicans to vote against that! They can’t and they won’t. As for the spending cuts, the 2011 agreement states that, for every domestic program dollar the Republicans want to cut, a Pentagon dollar must also be cut. See, you are a genius! No way will the Right vote against the masters of war. And if by some chance they do, you can immediately put forth legislation to restore all the programs we, the majority, approve of. And for God’s sake, man – declare Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid untouchable. They’re not bankrupt or anywhere near it. If the rich paid the same percentage of Social Security tax on their entire income – the same exact rate everyone else pays – then there will suddenly be enough money in Social Security to last til at least the year 2080!

2. END ALL THE WARS NOW. Do not continue the war in Afghanistan (a thoroughly losing proposition if ever there was one) for two full more years! Why should one single more person have to die FOR NO REASON? Stop it. You know it’s wrong. Bin Laden’s dead, al Qaeda is decimated and the Afghans have to work out their own problems. Also, end the drone strikes and other covert military activities you are conducting in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Colombia and God knows where else. You think history is going to remember the United States as a great democracy? No, they’re going to think of us as a nation that became addicted to war. They’ll call us warlords. They’ll say that in the 21st century America was so in need of oil that we’d kill anyone to get it. You know that’s where this is going. This has to stop. Now.

3. END THE DRUG WAR. It is not only an abysmal failure, it has returned us to the days of slavery. We have locked up millions of African-Americans and Latinos and now fund a private prison-industrial complex that makes billions for a few lucky rich people. There are other ways to deal with the drugs that do cause harm – ways built around a sense of decency and compassion. We look like a bunch of sadistic racists. Stop it.

4. DECLARE A MORATORIUM ON HOME FORECLOSURES AND EVICTIONS. Millions of people are facing homelessness because of a crooked system enacted by the major banks and Wall Street firms. Put a pause on this and take 12 months to work out a different way (like, restructuring families’ mortgages to reflect the true worth of their homes).

5. GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS. You already know this one. The public is sick of it. Now’s the time to act.

6. EXPAND OBAMACARE. Your health care law doesn’t cover everyone. It is a cash cow for the insurance industry. Push for a single-payer system – Medicare for All – and include dentistry and mental health. This is the single biggest thing you could do to reduce the country’s deficit.

7. RESTORE GLASS-STEAGALL. You must put back all the rigid controls on Wall Street that Reagan, Clinton and the Bushes removed – or else we face the possibility of another, much worse, crash. If they break the law, prosecute them the way you currently go after whistleblowers and medical marijuana dispensaries.

8. REDUCE STUDENT LOAN DEBT. No 22-year-old should have to enter the real world already in a virtual debtors’ prison. This is cruel and no other democracy does this like we do. You were right to eliminate the banks as the profit-gouging lenders, but now you have to bring us back to the days when you and I were of college age and a good education cost us little or next to nothing. A few less wars would go a long to way to being able to afford this.

9. FREE BRADLEY MANNING. End the persecution and prosecution of an American hero. Bush and Cheney lied to a nation to convince us to go to war. Manning allegedly hacked the war criminals’ files and then shared them with the American public (and the world) so that we could learn the truth about Iraq and Afghanistan. Our history is full of such people who “break the law” for the greater good of humanity. Army Specialist Bradley Manning deserves a medal, not prison.

10. ASK US TO DO SOMETHING. One thing is clear: none of the above is going to happen if you don’t immediately mobilize the 63,500,000 who voted for you (and the other 40 million who are for you but didn’t vote). You can’t go this alone. You need an army of everyday Americans who will fight alongside you to make this a more just and peaceful nation. In your 2008 campaign, you were a pioneer in using social media to win the election. Over 15 million of us gave you our cell numbers or email addresses so you could send us texts and emails telling us what needed to be done to win the election. Then, as soon as you won, it was as if you hit the delete button. We never heard from you again. (Until this past year when you kept texting us to send you $25. Inspiring.) Whoever your internet and social media people were should have been given their own office in the West Wing – and we should have heard from you. Constantly. Need a bill passed? Text us and we will mobilize! The Republicans are filibustering? We can stop them! They won’t approve your choice for Secretary of State? We’ll see about that! You say you were a community organizer. Please – start acting like one.

The next four years can be one of those presidential terms that changed the course of America. I’m sure you will want to be judged on how you stood up for us, restored the middle class, ended the s***ting on the poor and made us a friend to the rest of the world instead of a threat. You can do this. We can do it with you. All that stands in the way is your understandable desire to sing “Kumbaya” with the Republicans. Don’t waste your breath. Their professed love of America is negated by their profound hatred of you. Don’t waste a minute on them. Fix the sad mess we’re in. Go back and read this month’s election results. We’re with you.

Yours,
Michael Moore

White House.Gov Petition for Palestine

Please sign this petition and post it everywhere, share it with everyone you can.
It is an absolute travesty that my President who I voted for and worked to elect would continue the grotesque and ridiculous “Negroponte Doctrine” of supporting and blocking criticism of Israel’s actions at the UN no matter WHAT they do.
Are we Israeli’s or Americans? Why should we OBEY a foreign government at all much less when they are committing obvious and obscene human rights violations?
There was apparently a peace accord being worked on behind the scenes between the Palestinian Hamas leader who was murdered the other day and some faction of the Israeli government.
It is sick that the faction in power is more invested in power than in PEACE for ALL citizens there, Israeli and Palestinian. The PEOPLE are suffering on both sides, and it is up to US in the USA to stop the support that allows the nutjobs in power there to keep the suffering going. Without Obama’s backing Netanyahu cannot keep this up.

Obama Must Use Military to Ensure a Free and Fair Election
By Jonathan Klate

Witnessing this presidential election drama is like a nightmare in which a catastrophic multi-car collision on a fog shrouded, rain-slicked interstate is developing in slow motion. You see it from above, the helicopter view. The cars begin to skid and spin slowly out of control, hurtling towards each other, the inevitable crunches of steel and cascades of splintered glass anticipated. You are powerless to stop it. And, what is worse, in the surreal dreamscape, you are also a passenger in one of the cars.

Newly enacted rules regarding who may vote, when they may register, what sort of never before required ID will be required and who faces discouraging obstacles in obtaining it, how underserved will be certain voting precincts resulting in lines and waits so long as to effectively disenfranchise many hoping to vote, and challenges to citizens rights by vigilante mobs are widely forecast to compromise and potentially cast doubt upon the outcome of this election.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School, featuring some of the most prestigious scholars in the field of voting rights, reports that the breakdown of those without government issued photo ID includes 6 million seniors, 5.5 million African Americans, 8.1 million Hispanics, 4.5 million eighteen- to twenty-four-year olds, and 15 percent of voters with household income under $35,000 a year.

There’s some double-counting due to group overlap, but the net result is that some five million voters are losing their civil rights, overwhelmingly in twelve “battleground” states.

This is compounded greatly by the purges in Florida, Ohio, and elsewhere of likely Democratic voters. And all of this comes before the actual voting and counting which is itself egregiously suspect due to privately owned, coded, and operated electronic voting machines by companies without federal oversight including notoriously those in Ohio where the election may well be decided by an outfit in which the son of candidate Romney has an influential financial interest.

Things are so ominous that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy observers from its human rights office around the country on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places and efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.

All signs indicate that the election will be dramatically close and likely come down to a contest between Democratic turnout efforts and Republican suppressive action, according these corrupting factors the potential to be decisive. Obama’s strategy seems to be winning with enough of a margin to render cheating too problematic for the opposition to overcome his actual advantage. But, with current polls projecting a photo finish, this is a dubious game plan.

If the election process is compromised the only mechanism for remedial action will be in the courts and the only venue with sufficient authority to mandate adherence to a decision determining the outcome will be the Supreme Court. The justices perpetrated one of the grand travesties of American judicial history in 2000, and the right is lawyered up and ready to bring the fight across all of the swing states and to the Supremes in the event of disputed outcomes. If they do it again, will Obama deem it his solemn responsibility to enforce a blatantly political, extra-Constitutional decision, acquiescing meekly as did Gore and our president at the time, Bill Clinton? One is compelled to imagine that he would.

Thus Obama must pre-empt such an eventuality and use every mode and method of power at his command to guarantee the right of every citizen to vote wherever it is deemed to be threatened, whether by jurisdictional authority or by vigilante activism.

In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent the 101st Airborne into Little Rock when the governor of that state refused to enforce the rights of all Americans to attend school together. It was the right thing to do then and similar action is required now. After the election devolves into dispute will be too late.

Here is the kind of speech I would hope to hear President Obama deliver, and the sooner the better.

“My Fellow Americans, When you elected me as your president, I placed my hand upon the Holy Bible, and I swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Nothing is more fundamental to our nation and its constitution than the right to vote.

Brave Americans have fought and died through the centuries and are doing so today to guarantee the right to free and fair elections in far flung places around our world, so important to us as a people is this principle, not just for ourselves, but for everyone.

Nobody should be able to vote who does not qualify to do so according to the Constitution of the United States of America. Fortunately, this has rarely happened. In our long national history, however, many people, whole classes of people, have been denied this right. We must ensure that those days of disenfranchisement of our citizenry never return.

Everybody who does qualify and wants to vote must not have that right compromised, hindered, threatened or violated; not by any state or municipal authority; not by accidental misapplication of constitutional law; not by inadequate facilities or personnel; not due to discriminatory difficulties in accessing polling places that privilege one group of voters over another; and certainly not by the intimidation of vigilante mobs. Furthermore, the counting of votes must be done without the slightest suspicion of discrepancy. This is how we determine the will of the people.

In my view, the obstruction or intimidation of one single American from exercising their right to vote must be regarded as akin to terrorism, and must be prevented from occurring anywhere.

In order to uphold and defend the constitutionally guaranteed right to vote I will, as your president and Commander-in-Chief, utilize any and all powers of our federal government to observe, monitor, and – when and if necessary – enforce this right if it is in the process of being infringed. Monitors, backed by any required presence of federal authority, will be sent to any jurisdiction where information suggests infringement may occur, according to information gathered by the Department of Justice.

We will rely upon local law enforcement to do its job in every jurisdiction. We will reinforce this presence, should in our judgment it be required, by the armed forces of the United States of America to guarantee the absolute integrity of our democracy as the foundation stone of our liberty and as a model for the world. In this way, we will ensure that our government truly still is and evermore will be of the people, by the people, and for the people, so help us almighty God.”

The presence of armed forces would underscore the serious nature of the threats to democracy posed by the tactics of disenfranchisement being deployed by those determined to wrest the presidency from Barack Obama by any means necessary. Is it radical? Of course. Is there another way? The petitions flying around the web urging the Department of Justice to “Do something!” are exercises in futility. And it must be emphasized again, once the election is stolen there will be no effective recourse. The theft must be prevented.

The troops would serve as observers and peace keepers to ensure that there is no intimidation of voters such as that which is promised by vigilante groups issuing “citizen challenges” to, for example, voters of color, in swing states. Local law enforcement cannot be relied upon to adequately prevent this particularly if these intimidators turn out to number in the thousands as they threaten to. Vigilantes would be monitored, controlled, and prevented from harassing citizens. Also, violence could erupt between the challengers and those challenged which could disrupt voting by perhaps even leading to riots at some polling places. This would be welcomed by the vigilantes since disruption of voting by any means required is the point. So federal troops would be charged with ensuring public safety by preventing such confrontational escalation.

In precincts with inadequate numbers of voting facilities yielding long lines and waits of many hours, the military could keep those polls open until all who wish to vote have done so.

Technicians would be deployed to monitor voting machines to ensure recording and counting is properly supervised, and they would be protected in turn and enabled to do their job by the military.

The precincts selected for deployment would be only in those swing state districts where justice department intelligence strongly suggests that violations of civil right are likely to occur.

If the deployment of the military seems ill advised, I would ask, what is the alternative? Is refraining from such a radical course worth the subversion of the election and the commandeering of the White House in what would amount to a bloodless coupe; or, depending upon one’s interpretation of the 2000 debacle, another coupe?

Recommending military presence in our streets does not make me happy. One can imagine what a Romney administration might do with such a president. But then, the imagination of that possibility, achieved through obstruction of the voting process to obscure the will of the majority of those who intend to vote and have their votes counted, is the ironic impetus animating this suggestion.
